CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois football has its new defensive line coach, Austin Clark. The 27-year old comes to Champaign from Southern Cal where he spent the last two years as a graduate assistant. Illinois head coach Lovie Smith said the Cal-Berkley grad won him over during his interview.
“Austin Clark came in for his interview and just blew us away with his enthusiasm and detail,” Smith said in a statement. “He brings an outstanding attitude and high level of energy to our program. Our players are going to love working with Austin. He is extremely detailed and has a plan for each of the guys on the defensive line. Austin gained some great experience in his previous position, and will be a terrific addition to our staff.”
Clark will make $245,000 per year with the Illini. He replaces Mike Phair, who left last month to take over the same position group with the Indianapolis Colts.
