URBANA (WCIA) — Four area players started their Illinois football careers on Friday afternoon with the team’s first practice, while one player decides to leave the team.
Former Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley running back Mitch McNutt was not on the roster when camp opened. The reigning WCIA 3 Player of the Year was slotted to wear No. 28 for the Illini as a preferred walk-on but he decided to leave the program for personal reasons, saying: “it’s not a good fit for me.”
Former Danville teammates Julian Pearl and Caleb Griffin both were sporting the orange and blue together, along with former Centennial standout Dominic Stampley and Monticello’s Dylan Thomas.
