CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Taylor Edwards graduated last month from the University of Illinois but her days as an Illini aren’t done quite yet. The Arcola native officially joined the Illini women’s basketball team on Wednesday as a walk-on, using her fifth year of eligibility.
“When I met with Coach Fahey, she asked me that question, do I need time to think about it?” Edwards said. “About a second later, I said, ‘No, I’m in.'”
Edwards played four sports in high school, leading the Purple Riders in volleyball, basketball, softball, as well as track and field. The former Illini pitcher said she missed the hardwood, occasionally going to the ARC during the softball offseason to shoot hoops and play pick-up games. Now she gets the chance to suit up in the Big Ten.
“Just my passion for this school, I’ve loved every second of my experience here, so just to get the opportunity to wear the Illinois jersey for another year is a huge blessing to me.”
Edwards finished her career in the circle with a 37-19 record and 3.41 ERA. She plans to get a master’s degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism with a concentration in sports management.
