Williamsville riding high to state tourney

ATHENS (WCIA) — If the Williamsville softball team can take just a portion of the high it was on following Monday’s super-sectional win to state this weekend, the Bullets will be in good shape. Illinois signee Danielle Dennis hit a walk-off grand slam against St. Joseph-Ogden to send Williamsville to the Final 4 for the first time since 2012.

“We’ve really been preaching faith or fear and definitely we had faith in ourselves that we could still come back and win and it shows right here that anything is possible in any game,” Dennis said about the Bullets being down to their last out.

“It’s so gratifying and I tell ya what, I could not be happier for this group of kids,” Williamsville head coach Mindy Ashbaugh said. “I don’t know another group that’s worked so hard and wanted something so badly and for them, to get to this point, I don’t even  have words, I ‘m so proud of every single one of them.”

Williamsville (33-5) will play Beecher Friday at 5:30 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
