CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Coming off a story book season, the St. Thomas More volleyball team has a lot to replace from their state championship team.

The Sabers gradated five players from that team, and only return five others. Gone is Mica Allison, she’s playing volleyball at Auburn now, but her future rival and Alabama commit Allie Trame is ready to take control as the leader.

“There’s always a different vibe, and there should be a different vibe,” head coach Stan Bergman said. “It’s a brand new year, what happened last year was last year and it was one of those remarkable, memorable years but this year is a brand new year and these girls are ready to see what they can do.”

“I definitely think a lot of us have had to step up in the leadership role just because we lost five seniors, which is big, and there’s only four upperclassmen now,” Trame added. “I definitely think it’s more of trying to make the freshman feel welcome.”

STM opens their season Tuesday night at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
