EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WCIA) — This weekend marked the end of the high school spring sports season, several local softball and baseball teams made the trip to state. Mt. Zion softball earned a third place finish in the 3A girls state championship, and their roster is chock full of Division I talent.
Highlighting the day was ISU-signee Dayna Kennedy who earned 2 home runs for 3 RBI’s. Other impact seniors include Ally Bruner and Kynzie Wrigley, who will also play Division I softball.
“Being able to win my last ever high school softball game and going to ISU for the next four years, hopefully having the same success as I have had during high school,” says Kennedy.
Head coach Greg Blakey says, “We have taken the young, young kids. The six, seven, eight, nine year old kids and taught them and brought them into our little family and hopefully seeded the ground for the next generation I hope.”
