ST. JOSEPH (WCIA) — There’s plenty of motivation at training camp for the St. Joseph-Ogden football team these days. The Spartans are coming off a 4-5 season, the first time they missed the playoffs since 1990.
“I definitely feel like a lot of those losses put things into perspective for us this year to where we know what we can and can’t do, as far as winning and losing games,” St. Joseph-Ogden senior running back Dwight Colvin said. “So I definitely think last year will be used as a stepping stone for this year.”
The Spartans only lose seven seniors from last year’s team, meaning the majority of starters are back. Colvin will lead the way in the backfield, along with fellow senior Keenan Swanson under center. They are the building blocks for now third year head coach Shawn Skinner.
“What you have to do is watch and see how people respond to it, and thus far, what we’ve asked them to do in the summer was exactly the right response,” Skinner said.
St. Joseph-Ogden opens the season at St. Thomas More on Aug. 24th.
