DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A new gold medal has made it’s way back to central Illinois thanks to Schlarman senior Anaya Peoples.
Peoples was welcomed back to Danville on Saturday with a reception at Schlarman. She was part of Team USA that went 6-0 on their way to a gold medal at the FIBA U18 Americas. She averaged 5.3 points per game and lead the team in total assists with 18.
“We’ve learned so much about basketball, just during the whole entire thing it was about having a gold mindset,” she said. “So gold mentality, gold mindset, gold hustle, so everything you did was the highest standard. No slacking, nothing so you had to come prepared everyday, practice, games, and just have that gold mentality.”
Her focus is now on her senior season with the Toppers where they will try and defend their state title.
