TOLONO (WCIA) — There’s a new look and feel to Unity football this season. Twenty-one of 22 starters are gone from last year’s team that finished in a three-way tie for first in the Illini Prairie Conference. Replacing that many players in the starting lineup is something longtime head coach Scott Hamilton has never dealt with before.
“You know as I told them on day one, now it’s just a matter of us finding out who can we count on when it gets tough?” Hamilton said. “When you need the 4th and 1, who wants to be that guy? And that’s what we’ve got to figure out.”
David Martin is the lone full-time starter back and he’s changing positions. Quarterback Evan Miebach got the nod two games last season when Steven Migut couldn’t play due to injury. Other than that, everyone on the offense is new.
“I think you’ve got to keep it to the basics now and then later games and later in the season, it’s going to important that everybody keeps their cool,” Miebach said. “It’s going to be a learning process throughout.”
Unity opens the season at Illinois Valley Central on Aug. 24th.
