CHARLESTON (WCIA) — One day wasn’t enough to recap all the girls track and field state champions in the WCIA viewing area, we could go a whole week listing all of them. Here’s a look at some more winners from the weekend.

Josie Held (Mt. Zion) beat out Aliyah Welter (Monticello) on the pole vault. DaeLin Switzer placed in the top three in four different events, that alone won St. Teresa the 3rd place team trophy. Schlarman’s Capria Brown, Lucy Lux-Rulon of St. Thomas More, and SJO’s Atleigh Hamilton swept the top three in the long jump. It was a 3-peat for Uni High senior Arielle Summitt in the 800m.

“That was definitely in the back of my mind but I was trying not to think about it during the race,” Summitt said. “On Thursday a couple people asked me if I was going for the 1A record, which is 2:09, and so I just wanted to see if I could go out at that pace and maybe bring it home but I was like a second and a half off but I’m still really happy beacuse I PR’d.”
