WCIA — The Little Okaw Valley Conference is getting a makeover.
Villa Grove formally turned in paperwork to withdraw from the league on Tuesday. Other schools like Heritage and Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond followed suit, with more expected in the coming days. The Arcola school board has already drafted its release and will likely turn it in on Friday, the last official day for school’s to pull out of the LOVC in time for the 2018-19 season.
“As members of the Southeast Division, travel time for students and parents, uncertainty of schools being able to field teams, low attendance of events, and lack of natural rivalries were our main concerns,” a Villa Grove school district statement said.
Arcola superintendent Tom Mulligan says if they decide to turn in that withdraw letter, they will look to start a new, more stable 10-football team conference.
