RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — Rantoul track and field standout Elijah Hall is the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week. The senior paced the Eagles relays and improved his times at the Illinois Top Times meet.
Elijah led off the 4×800 relay at Illinois Top Times with a 2:03 split after getting boxed in halfway through his leg. He managed to get out of that and handoff the baton in 1st place. The relay ended up 3rd place and the same four guys cut ten seconds off of their #1 indoor time to run 8:22 covering 3200m.
He then ran the open 800 meter less than an hour later and led the first 400 meters and finished the race with a time of 2:02.93 which is second all-time on the RTHS indoor leaderboard.
“I’m starting to see the results that we were expecting to see at the beginning of the season, so I want to break two minutes for the 800, so that’s kind of step one, and after that just qualify for state,” Hall said. “Continue to grow and improve and see where I end up.”
Hall is now eligible for a $500 scholarship we’ll give away to one weekly winner. To vote for the next Athlete of the Week, click here: https://www.wcia.com/athlete-of-the-week
