Familiar feel to postseason for Mt. Zion

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Mt. Zion softball team is back in the Elite 8, and this postseason run has a very familiar feel to last years run.

The Braves finished 4th last year at state but prior to that, they beat Charleston in the sectional final then Centralia in the super-sectional.

On Saturday, they beat Charleston in the sectional final to set up a date with Centralia in the super-sectional.

“It means a lot because of the whole championship last year and coming back and taking three wins over Charleston means a lot to us,” junior Audrey Eades said.

“Feels great. As I always tell people, winning is always fun. Plus, it’s good for our community too,” head coach Greg Blakey said. “Now the good things with these kids is they have seeded the next generation because tomorrow at camp we will have 60 kids at our little kids camp because of these kids.”

Mt. Zion and Charleston start at 4:30 on Monday in the Mattoon super-sectional.
