MAHOMET (WCIA) — Defense has been the name of the game for the Mahomet-Seymour football team the past few seasons but that script could flip this season. The Bulldogs return seven offensive starters including several skill guys, led by quarterback Dawson Finch. The line play will also get a boost with three returners. Offense has been a big point of emphasis for the team this offseason after averaging less than 20 points per game last year.
“I think we’ve put in some things that will help us do that and spread some things out,” Mahomet-Seymour head coach Keith Pogue said. “We have some explosive players and if we can get them into space, they can do some good things for us.”
“We have a lot of returning starters on the line especially so I feel like our run game is going to be insane,” Mahomet-Seymour running back Dylan Gates said. “They’re going to be able to protect Dawson (Finch) and let him get the ball off this year.”
“It was a little frustrating last year, we gave up too many turnovers every game,” Mahomet-Seymour senior lineman Kyle Kinney said. “This year I feel like we’re going to do a lot better. We’ve got some juniors that are going to be very helpful and our seniors are very good, very strong.”
Mahomet-Seymour opens the season at Washington on Aug. 24th.
