Danville looks to build in Forrest’s second season

DANVILLE — The Danville Vikings will look a lot different this fall without the likes of Ernest Plummer, Jerry Reed, Day’len Davis-Williams, Julian Pearl and Caleb Griffin, among other seniors that led the Vikings to an 8-2 record. The one thing second year head coach Marcus Forrest is hoping to keep the same is his approach to the season.

“What I’ve been telling them all summer is learn that we’re not going to have any cracks in the foundation,” Forrest said. “Once you start pouring the concrete you don’t want any cracks because that crack may not be a problem now, but it’s going to be a problem later on.”

That foundation was certainly laid last season but will be put to the test this year, the Vikings only return one offensive starter.

“This year, we’re kind of younger, so I feel like everybody is working for a spot,” Danville junior linebacker John Ward said. “Everybody is trying to stay focused this year.”

Danville opens the season Friday night hosting Bloomington.
