Can Illini ride wave of Michigan State win into Wisconsin?

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois football will try and ride the momentum of the Michigan State win, into Madison this weekend when they take on the Badgers.

Wisconsin comes in ranked #7 in the country, and tied at the top of the Big Ten West standings.

“I think you just get to the point where you keep pounding the rock, eventually you see a crack,” Lovie said about the win Saturday over Michigan State. “Again, I don’t think it was a movie or anything, you just can’t, it’s a little bit bigger than just that. I think you just stay the course and eventually you get over the hump. I think that’s where we are. Got over the hump last week. Now it’s about putting two good games together back to back.”
Sophomore linebacker Tre Watson picked up some honors on Monday. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. He totaled 16 tackles, with 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass break up in the win. It’s his first career player of the week honor. He’s the first Illini to win the honor since Tavon Wilson, in 2011.
“It’s a great honor. It’s something that since you’re a little kid you see guys up there and honored for different things and week in and week out you see guys have huge performances and it’s great for me to know that my performance helped us win the game, especially the way we did,” Watson said. “It’s indescribable honestly.”
“Just knowledge of the defense first, you got to know exactly what your role is and what you’re supposed to do. Then when you get in a position, you know how to get in position, it’s about making plays at every position and he’s done that,” Lovie added.
Illinois and Wisconsin will kick off at 2:30 Saturday, you can watch it on ESPN2.
