CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Willard Airport is renovating their 4/22 runway.
Leaders from the airport, along with Senator Dick Durbin, were at a ground-breaking ceremony on Friday. The renovations will take more than 150 days to complete.
The runway project will include new pavement, lighting, underground wiring and more.
It will take more than four months to finish.
“It is opening the doors even wider to welcome more flyers, more airlines, more passengers into and out of this vital community,” said Robert Jones, the chancellor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The project is expected to cost more than $12 million. The FAA is paying for most of it.
