UPDATE: 12/6/19 1:17 — Authorities say their investigation of a suspicious package at the VA facility building is now over.
They say nothing dangerous was found. There was a package addressed to the VA. “Open Here” was written on the parcel. It was ran through an x-ray machine in the Building 102 mailroom.
It was labeled as a possible threat. The East Central Illinois bomb squad opened the package and found cards with metal lacing, causing it to be flagged.
DANVILLE, Ill. — Veterans Affairs police are investigating a suspicious package that arrived at a VA facility building. The UI bomb squad is on scene.
It was called in around 11 a.m. Investigators say they are allowing things to operate as normal while the package is looked into. Building 102 has been evacuated. Patient healthcare is still happening because it is in an unaffected area.
