CHAMPAIGN — On New Years’ Eve, we tried something we’ve never done before.
We hosted a Toast to The New Year in downtown Champaign, and took a look back at 2016. We thought it was only fitting that since central Illinois is home to a city called “Champaign”, there ought to be a live television event to toast the new year.
“We’ve got everybody out,” said WCIA 3 General Manager Coby Cooper, “This is an entire station effort. Everybody’s getting ready for tonight’s party.”
It all happened on R.E.O. Speedwagon way, where the band Radio Six didn’t disappoint with plenty of throwback hits. Our party patrol was on the prowl for reflections and resolutions. It was a little chilly outside, but it takes more than a little cold to stop a party like this.
“This is the first of hopefully many to come,” said Rod Sickler, “We want to create an annual tradition here.”
We wouldn’t be able to pull it off without your support, the support from our sponsors, and our team here at WCIA 3. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!
