Suspect sought for double shooting

DECATUR — Police are searching for suspects after two people were shot Saturday night. It happened in the 1000-block of West View Street.

Neighbors say the area is typically a peaceful, calm community.

“We’ve never had anything. This is a very quiet neighborhood, so it’s a bit of a shock.”

That was until Saturday when shots rang out on their street just before midnight. Police say a 20-year old man and 24-year old woman were shot multiple times in the driveway of a home. The victims are siblings.

They were inside a vehicle when an unknown suspect walked up and fired three rounds into the car.

“I heard three shots, pop, pop, pop, and then I heard a crash.”

According to the neighbors, before the shooting, a crowd of people and cars were gathered outside the home. Those who heard the noise say, when they came out, no one was there.

“By the time I got here, they all sped off. I couldn’t tell you what kind of a license plate, nothing.”

Neighbors say whoever left the scene first struck a parked vehicle, then sped off down the street. The residents are new to the neighborhood. Others say they’re not sure who exactly lives in the house.

“They’ve only been here about a month, maybe a little longer. But, I’m not even sure if they’re living here.”

“I don’t have no idea who they were or nothing.”

Those in the community say the amount of foot traffic in and out of the home has raised eyebrows.

“We can tell what kind of place it was just by the traffic, in and out. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out.”

Police have not made any arrests and don’t have a suspect description. The victims’ names have not been released, but they drove themselves to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown, but they are expected to survive.
