Students approve new mascot referendum

News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — University of Illinois students approved the idea the university should adopt the Belted Kingfisher as its mascot.

Students voted last week on the referendum. The vote to adopt the orange and blue bird passed 4,222 to 3,597.

Again, this is a non-binding referendum. The proposal still needs to go to the university administration.
