SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The city’s mayor now has a lower spending limit before needing council’s approval. City council voted 6 to 4 Tuesday evening to lower the cap from $50,000 to $10,000.

Alderman Ralph Hanauer pushed for the ordinance change. He said one point of contention happened after the mayor fired Economic Development Director Val Yazel. He said he felt the mayor no longer had someone to answer to.
