GIBSON CITY — Police are investigating a threat in the school district. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Middle School was evacuated after a written threat was discovered inside.

The school was evacuated around 12:30 pm, Tuesday. Nearly 230 students were sent to the elementary school where they remained until the threat was cleared about 2:30 pm. 6th – 8th graders returned to finish the day.

The school superintendent says administrators and investigators assume the message was written by a student or multiple students, but it’s still under investigation.

This isn’t the first time GCMS Middle School has been evacuated for a bomb threat. In October 2015, a student discovered the message in the boy’s washroom
