CHARLESTON — People may hear the sound of gunfire around Eastern Illinois University next week.

School and city police are using campus as a training site.

They don’t want residents thinking there’s an actual emergency.

Officers will be using blanks to respond to an “active” shooter.

Training takes place Tuesday and Thursday while most students and staff are away from spring break.
