CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police and Champaign Police responded to a man who threatened to jump off an overpass on Prospect Avenue over I-74 Saturday afternoon.

Lanes were closed off on both I-74 and Prospect Ave. for several hours as officers negotiated with the man, reopening around 5:30 in the evening.

Champaign Police spokesman Tom Yelich said the man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He referred to the response as a “great coordinated effort by law enforcement to help an individual from potentially harming himself and removing him from trouble.”
