DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Officers said a traffic stop that led to a chase ended in the confiscation of two illegally possessed guns and drugs.
In a release, Decatur Sergeant Scott Rosenbery said the Decatur Police Community Action Team initiated a traffic stop on a car at the intersection of Hickory and Lowber Streets around 1 p.m. Tuesday. He said the driver–who was alone in the car– ran away on foot into a nearby house. “The Decatur Police Department secured the residence and requested the occupants to exit,” said Rosenbery. Seven people, including the driver, came out of the house.
Rosenbery said officers found evidence when searching the suspect’s car. However, he did not give details on that evidence. Additionally, police obtained a warrant to search the house where they found the two illegally possessed guns and “suspected controlled substances.” The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into the Macon County Jail for unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. Rosenbery said other arrests in regards to this situation are possible.
