UPDATE: 24-year-old death ruled a homicide


Family mourning loss of shooting victim

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A jury has ruled the death of 24-year-old Christopher Stone as a homicide.

He was shot on the evening of September 14th around 5 p.m.

He was taken to the hospital and pronounced shortly after arriving.

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 24-year-old man is dead after he was shot Saturday evening.

The Macon County Coroner says Christopher Stone, of Decatur, died as a result of several gunshot wounds.

Decatur police responded to a call around 5:00 p.m. near the Gateway Community Center on E. Cantrell Street, between Illinois and Jasper Streets, and remained on scene for hours afterward.

When police got there, they found the Stone in a parking lot on the south side of the street. He was taken to the hospital, and pronounced dead shortly after.

Decatur police are processing evidence, talking to witnesses, and investigating leads.
