DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) —

“Unnecessary shooting and violence and killing,” Ed Butler, NAACP and Three Kings of Peace, said.

One man says the deaths need to stop, after a teenager was shot and killed today in Danville.

It happened near a small grocery store at East Fairchild and Fowler Avenue. In addition to the one victim who died, another was sent to the hospital.

Ed Butler with the Danville NAACP and the Three Kings of Peace says he was trying to mentor the boys.

“Two of my boys had got shot in a drive by shooting,” Butler said.

Danville Police responded to the Eastside Grocery Store on East Fairfield in reference to a person shot. When they arrived on scene, a 19- year old was found lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was quickly transported to the hospital where he died.

“I was told, Butler, you know this, you win some and you going to lose some. And so here I just lost one,” Butler said.

A 17- year old Danville teen was also shot in the ankle. He was transferred to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

“The other one, he’s hanging on. These boys are just dear to my heart,” Butler said.

I called OSF hospital and they confirmed they were on lockdown. That has been lifted.
Ed Butler, with the NAACP and Three Kings of Peace, says this shooting may have been gang related.

“Rival gangs, shootings, and these boys have been having a rival since they were in middle school,” Butler said.

Witnesses told police a light blue colored vehicle drove past the scene and someone began firing at the victims.

“This gang stuff, or so called gangs, you know, it doesn’t make any sense. We have to learn how to come together and love each other and embrace each other,” Butler said.

Butler hopes whoever is responsible gets caught.

“Open your heart for your people, come forward and say something,” Butler said.
