ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) – Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Coroner have released new information on a deadly crash that occurred outside of St. Joseph on U.S. Route 150 on the evening of April 30.
Police said the two-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening just west County Road 2450 East.
Authorities said that Rebecca Gerald, 62, of St. Joseph, was traveling west in a Buick on U.S. Route 150 approaching 2450 East in Champaign County. A 15-year-old female from Homer was traveling east at the same location, she was driving in a Hyundai along with a passenger.
Police said that Gerald’s car crossed the center of the roadway and struck the teenager’s car. The Champaign County Coroner confirmed that Gerald was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:35 p.m. after the head on collision.
The driver and passenger of the Hyundai were both transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for around six hours for the investigation.
Authorities said the crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the coroner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Gerald on Monday, May 1 in Urbana, Ill.
