Police find car damaged after shots fired

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Police are investigating a shooting that left a stolen car riddled with bullet holes in Urbana on Thursday afternoon.

Urbana police say around 4 p.m. multiple people called 9-1-1 to report shots fired in the 800 block of Oakland Avenue. Callers told police that “multiple people were seen running and driving away from the area” following the shots.

Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that multiple people were standing near an Audi when another vehicle drove up to that group.

They say one person got out of that vehicle and began firing a gun at the crowd gathered near an Audi, which police later learned was listed as stolen from Chicago. Upon the shots being fired, the group dispersed and the other vehicle drove away.

Police found the abandoned Audi — with all of its bullet holes — after their arrival.

No one has reported to the Urbana Police Department as being injured from the gunfire, according to a press release.

The investigation is ongoing.
