The Piatt County Coroner has released the name of a Champaign man who was identified as the victim of a deadly crash on I-74 near Mansfield.

Coroner Troy Dunn identified the man as 20-year-old Brendan Hughes.

The crash that resulted in Hughes’ death is still under investigation and no further information was released.


Update 9:12 a.m.

Illinois State Police have released an update on their investigation into Tuesday’s deadly I-74 crash.

ISP Troop 7 responded to a report of a single-car crash at Milepost 167 near Mansfield at 6:29 p.m. on March 21. Officials said a vehicle was traveling westbound and left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck a tree and became engulfed.

Police said that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no additional information available at this time.


MANSFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) – The Piatt County Coroner is investigating a deadly crash on Tuesday. It happened on Interstate 74 westbound just a mile south of the Mansfield exit.

The name of the victim, or victims, will be released once family is notified.
