Park district will stay, vote to dissolve nulled

RANTOUL — The Rantoul Park District will be sticking around after all.

A judge ruled that the ballot question to dissolve the park district was filed improperly, so even though the majority of voters moved to get rid of it, the failure to follow procedure makes the decision void.

The group that put forth the question says they still feel that they’ve won in a different way.
“Our goal originally was to educate the community of Rantoul about the neglect of the parks and that the park district was responsible, not the village of Rantoul, and we were successful in that,” said Jack Anderson, who lobbied for the ballot question.
The Rantoul Park District will still be running their several parks, plus the Brookhill Golf Course.
