Honor Guard 2018

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Operation Honor Guard is almost here and your help is needed to raise $170,000 Thursday. All the money raised with help Honor Guards continue to honor veterans.

The commander of the Champaign VFW, Edwin Cook, was an Army medic for eight years and served in Desert Storm.

Even though his VFW recently got money from Operation Honor Guard, he still comes to the WCIA-3 News back parking lot every year. He wants others to have the same opportunities his Honor Guard has had.

He’s proof not all the money which goes to VFWs goes to uniforms. They’ve had their van since 1992. It didn’t have air conditioning and got hot when the veterans wore uniforms while riding in it.

Cook promises to be here Thursday doing something special for the Honor Guard.
