CHAMPAIGN — An area school is one step closer to a new home. Judah Christian will eventually move to the west side of town. The school will move to its new $26 million home in the fall of 2019.
Currently, the school is on a four-acre lot on North Prospect. The new pre-K – 12 school will be near Rising Road and Kirby Avenue, with 50-acres.
It’s been a goal the district has been working toward for years. It started with building the Field of Dreams; the first sports field Judah could claim as its own after years of sharing with other schools.
Leaders say each project is being done in phases. In the fall, the school started raising money and is currently at about $11 million. But, the goal is $26 million.
The Judah Rising Campaign is open for donations from anyone.
Another school in the county is also getting an upgrade. Mahomet-Seymour broke ground on the Middletown Prairie renovation and addition. It’s near Route 150, on Bulldog Drive.
The school will house grades pre-K – 2nd grade. The district also plans to put the junior high in the same spot within the next ten years.
