Marathon shirts being printed

News
CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Marathon is still months away, but runners already training – and shirts are already being printed.

Workers have started printing t-shirts for the Friday night 5k. The design celebrates the sesquicentennial, or 150 year anniversary, of the University of Illinois. It features Red Grange’s galloping ghost statue. Crews will print about 5,000 5k shirts and about 22,000 shirts for the whole weekend.

“From the volunteers to the runners, rain or shine, everyone’s out smiling on race day and when you stand back and look at it all, it really encompasses what the Champaign-Urbana community is all about so it’s really an amazing experience,” says Steven Farag, owner of Campus Sportswear Inc.

Marathon officials say they expect a record number of runners this year. You can get a discount on registration if you sign up on New Year’s Day
