Many shocked Rauner signs “abortion” bill

ROCKFORD — In state court Friday, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed suit against Governor Bruce Rauner for signing a bill into law forcing doctors and medical facilities to promote abortion regardless of personal or moral views.

ADF represents an Illinois doctor and two pregnancy care centers. In May, the group sent a letter to Rauner on behalf of pro-life physicians, pregnancy care centers and network organizations maintaining SB 1564 would violate federal law placing federal funding, including Medicaid, in jeopardy.

ILLINOIS — Women will soon be given more choices when they find out they’re pregnant at the doctor’s office.

A new bill will require all pregnancy centers to provide abortion or adoption options, regardless of its faith orientation.

Previously, religious hospitals or clinics would not recommend outside treatment options to patients. The change amends the state’s Health Care Right of Conscience Act.

Opponents say it’s upsetting a Republican governor signed the bill. It failed to get any Republican votes in either the House or the Senate.
