Man sentenced for role in campus beating

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — A man accused of being involved in a fight prior to a fatal shooting on campus has been sentenced.

18-year old Sedric Cooper was found guilty of aggravated battery and sentenced to 34 months in prison.

At least eight men faced charges in the September beating of a 22-year old man which led to the fatal shooting of George Korchev. Robbie Patton was charged with Korchev’s murder.

The other defendants were charged with aggravated battery and mob action.
