Zoning process in hands of county, not township

Local News

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Governor Pritzker signed a bill that will block Newman Township and all townships from writing their own regulations for wind farms.

Last month, Newman voted to require a wind farm company to put more space between turbines and homes. That decision affected how many turbines the company would be able to build.

This new law puts the power solely in the county’s hands.

Douglas County does not have many zoning restrictions on wind turbines. The governor says this change will help create jobs and produce clean, renewable energy. The law takes effect immediately.
