WW II vet going on Honor Flight

Local News

TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — A World War II veteran is heading to D.C. for the first time in more than 70 years.

Kenneth Roellig will be 92 next month. He was 18 when he was drafted in 1944, and he got to Italy about a month before the war in Europe ended.

On October 17, he’s heading to D.C. on an Honor Flight. The program takes veterans to see the monuments honoring them. Of the 81 veterans going, Roellig is one of three WW II veterans.
