Woman rescued after car swept away

Local News

ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman was taken to the hospital after being rescued from flood waters but she was only complaining of being cold.

It happened about 10:30 am, on 1700 North, just west of Chateau Drive. Her vehicle wound up in the Salt Fork Creek after being swept away when she drove down a flooded roadway.

First responders saw her get out of the vehicle and two firefighters used a canoe to pull her from the water. Her vehicle subsequently sank.

Authorities urge people to avoid flooded roadways because 6″ of water can make a car uncontrollable and one foot can sweep most vehicles away.
