Woman killed by DUI driver

COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — One man is in custody after police say he caused a fatal crash while drunk.

James Miller, of Terre Haute, Ind., faces aggravated DUI charges. 38-year old April Fischer, of Mattoon, was killed in the crash Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office says Miller didn’t slow down to avoid an accident, disobeyed as stop sign and was improperly using an electronic communication device.

COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident. It happened at the intersection of 900 North and 1100 East Tuesday.

Authorities say when they arrived on scene, they found both vehicles in a field, heavily damaged.

38-year old April Fischer, of Mattoon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, 56-year old James Miller, of Terre Haute, Ind., was airlifted to a hospital in Urbana. It was determined he was under the influence of alcohol.

Miller was cited for DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a stop sign and improper use of an electronic communication device. The accident is under investigation.
