Woman arrested for arson after husband served divorce papers

ATWOOD, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman was arrested for setting her house on fire Thursday night.

Authorities responded to 200 Eric Drive. to investigate a house fire. When they arrived, the garage and a nearby RV were engulfed.

An officer says 34-year old Christina Harris was walking nearby with a neighbor. Harris was carrying a propane torch and lighter. She admitted to setting the fire because she was served with divorce papers earlier in the day.

Harris was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. When she was released, she was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated arson, a class X felony.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
