CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The wind kept fire crews busy Tuesday.

Fire destroyed at least seven cars and damaged several more at the Rockwell Automation Parking Lot, in Champaign. Crews responded to two cars on fire, but heavy winds caused the flames to spread. The cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, crews also responded to the intersection of Bellepark Drive and West Daniel Street, also in Champaign. A two-car garage was fully involved when firefighters arrived. Because of the winds, homes on each side were also damaged. The cause is not known. No one was hurt.

In Homer, fire destroyed a garage. Crews were called to a home near the intersection of South Church and East Mary Street, just before 1:30 pm, Tuesday. Officials say it was used for storage and contained a lot of cardboard.

The heat melted some siding on homes nearby. No one was hurt, but one firefighter was checked for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. He’ll be okay.
