NORMAL, Ill. (WCIA) — Town leaders in Normal are green lighting a “welcoming city” ordinance.
Advocates of the ordinance say they want help immigrants avoid being reported to immigration and customs enforcement by keeping families together.
Some officials say even under the ordinance not much would change. Dozens of neighbors gathered last night to hear board members discuss the topic.
The Normal Police Department is now working on a draft policy that will be put in place for the “welcoming city” ordinance.
