Voters elect new mayor

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Rickey Williams won the Danville mayoral race on Tuesday night.

Williams got 48% of the votes. He was running against three other candidates. Jim McMahon had 24%, Steve Nichols at 19%, and Donald Crews with 9%.

4,504 ballots were cast, that’s 26% of registered voters in Danville. The biggest issues surrounding this mayoral campaign centered on the budget and revenue, paying off pension debt, and city safety.

Williams took the mayor’s job on an interim basis when Scott Eisenhauer left for Rantoul. He says he’s ready to take on the responsibilities as mayor and has priorities he want to take care of right away.

Williams says, “I want to tell the people more than anything else, I’m going to do all I can to make sure they’re safe. That is our number one job in government. We’re going to work hard to find an awesome chief of police and chief of fire.”

He won in every precinct. He will continue to serve as interim mayor and will be officially sworn in on May 7th.
