CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — After working without a new contract for three months, the school district and teachers’ union will sit down with a federal mediator. Their last contract expired at the end of June.

The Champaign Federation of Teachers wants to focus on class size, home visits and student safety.

District officials want to avoid a federal lawsuit. Both sides meet with the mediator October 8.
