UI keeps looking toward the bright side

Local News

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The UI is looking to add more solar energy farms south of campus.

A second solar farm would go on the northwest corner of First Street and Curtis Road, in Savoy.

The 54-acres would be just south of its first solar farm, just off Windsor and Route 45, which went online in 2015.

UI Facilities and Services is looking for a 10 – 20 year power purchase agreement with a private developer who would design, build and operate it. They would also sell the energy to the campus.

The project will be awarded in August and construction is expected to start in October.
