UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (AP) — The UI has stopped forming new partnerships with a Chinese firm accused of being a national security threat by the U.S. government.
The policy involving Huawei was announced last week in an email to the College of Engineering.
While prohibiting the acceptance of new grants, contracts or gifts from the company, nearly a dozen current Huawei-sponsored projects can be completed.
Huawei denies any implications by federal law its equipment is capable of spying on American companies or government agencies.
There never has been any public evidence supporting the claims.
