CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A weekend fire forced 17 people from their homes. It started in a dumpster at the back of the building near 5th and Green streets.

The investigation has been handed over to police. The property owner says authorities told her it’s arson.

Repair work is underway, but it will probably take a month before all power is restored. Three businesses downstairs were also damaged. In total, there’s about $80,000 in repairs.

The property manager says everything was caught on security cameras. Investigators are checking the footage. No one has been arrested or charged.

The property manager hopes to get some kind of temporary power source to the business.
