PONTIAC, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people are being treated after a vehicle was submerged in the Vermilion River near Pontiac.
Illinois State Police, Pontiac Fire Department and the Hudson Dive Team all responded to the scene on Monday afternoon. Preliminary reports say an SUV was driving southbound on Interstate 55 near mile marker 201 when it left the roadway, went into a ditch and landed in the river.
ISP said two people were transported to area hospitals. One of the patients is being treated at the OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, in critical condition.
Southbound lanes of I-55 were rerouted down Route 66.
ISP is handling the case.
